Core Drama Therapy Classes-

Principles of Drama Therapy (3 units)

Creative Drama (3 units

Creative Arts Therapies (3 units)

Drama Therapy with Special Populations (3 units)

Sociodrama & Advanced Psychodramatic Techniques. (3 units)

Ethical and Legal Issues (3 units)

Research, Assessment and Treatment in Drama (3 units)

Note: for each 3-unit core class approximately 15 TBA arranged hours are required.

For students who qualify there is a 1-unit Translational Project for Research and Ethics approved by NADTA.

Total Units of Core Required: 21 units

 

Advanced Practice Class Required

Restoried Script Performance: Advanced Practice Drama Therapy (Advanced Practice:  3 units).

Drama Therapy Supervisory Groups

Drama Therapy Internship  (1 to 12 units)

Additional Related Training by Licensed Mental Health Professional (1-8 units)

Additional Supervision BCT Trainer (1-12 units)

Drama Therapy Case Study (1 to 12 units)

*Required to be in supervision when acquiring drama therapy hours (Ratio- 10 hours of clinical work to 1 hour supervision).

Abnormal Psychology or Psychopathology (3 units)

Personality Theory (3 units)

The above three are required. Then choose either of the following:

Group Dynamics (3 units)

105-Advanced Group Counseling (3 units)

Total Units Required: 12 Upper Division Units of Psychology

Summary of Requirements for Drama Therapy Fundamentals Training Program

Students in the DTFT Program must complete the entire core Drama Therapy classes (21 units), Psychology classes or equivalency (12 units), and Drama Therapy Advanced Practice Electives (6 units) This totals 39 units.  Refer to the Elective list for special focus areas. Students with limited experience in drama and theatre process may be required to take additional classes in that area. Psychology courses may be transferred to the Institute from an accredited college or university program. Training units or supervision may be transferred from a NADTA BCT trainer (converted to hours), accredited university program or licensed mental health professional acting as supervisor).
